Lessons from the forest

One of the things that Uncle Tim Wiggens taught us at Haga Haga is to go to the forest and learn. A healthy forest means that everything is in balance and everything has its place and time and right environment to grow in. We want to recreate that as closely as possible in our own garden to achieve perfect balance.
So we went to the forest near Haga Haga and just sat there for quite awhile just observing everything around us. Like how much mulch there was on the forest floor from the trees loosing their leaves. How moist it was from this mulch and the way that every drop of water gets channeled, stored and used for as long as possible. The list is a long one.

What Michael did understand and start doing when we got back was to grow trees in his Clivia pots. Makes so much sense doesn’t it. In stead of having your tree nursery area one side and your Clivia growing area in another area you combine the two and recreate the forest. The Clivias obviously love growing in a shady forest area, and the tree seedlings are thriving as well.

Go to the forest and learn.
